Who could argue against that? In this country we seem to think it is ok to use fossil fuels like coal and gas that is imported from around the world but not ok to extract the same fossil fuels from underneath our own feet. I have surveyed people in my constituency and over 90% of people who took part agreed that we should frack gas to be self-sufficient and not be reliant on foreign supplies. Add that to the terrible conflict we now see in Ukraine then the prospect of cheaper gas prices seems a million miles away. Post Pandemic there is obviously a growing demand for gas the global economy recovers which has led to an unprecedented rise in fuel prices. Yes, fracking is controversial, but I would argue that not being able to keep warm in 2022 is more controversial which is why I support the use of fossil fuels as we transition to Net Zero.

No one disagrees with our Net Zero journey but Net Zero does not mean zero fossil fuels and its all well and good the local Green Party supporter driving around in their 90 grand Tesla living in a five-bedroomed detached house complete with solar panels and heat pump, but what about the family of five in Ashfield living in a cold Victorian end terraced house? There is no wonder many of us in Westminster are accused of being out of touch. Mention the word ‘Fracking’ and some people will run a mile and as a rule its usually the same people who have never had to worry about paying a gas bill.
